Nuclear power plant projects

In the nuclear power generation sector, EA has been the main or sole architect-engineering organisation for six 1000-MWe units in Spain. We have also participated in numerous other projects around the world, providing engineering and services with a wide range of scopes and responsibilities.

We have worked on projects involving a variety of reactor types and technologies (PWR, BWR, VVER, RBMK, PHWR, PBMR), NSSS suppliers, codes, standards and regulatory requirements. Such comprehensive expertise may be considered as unique in a single engineering organisation.

Among the new power plant projects in which EA is currrently playing a role, we would highlight our participation in three: Lungmen NPP (ABWR, 2 x 1350 MW, GE), in Taiwan; Olkiluoto 3 NPP (EPR, 1670 MW, Framatome ANP- Siemens), in Finland; and the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) project (140 MWe per module) in South Africa.

Nuclear activities in Central and Eastern Europe

EA has undertaken a number of engineering projects for VVER and RBMK plants in Central and Eastern European countries.

The main purpose of these projects is to provide technical assistance and engineering solutions for safety-related issues in nuclear plants in these countries.

We have teamed up with local institutes and companies in these countries, as well as with other West European partners (namely leading reactor vendors and engineering companies in Europe).

Funding for these projects is provided by the plants/utilities themselves, or through the European Union’s Tacis and Phare Programmes.
