Radioactive waste management
EA has developed management
projects for the whole radioactive waste trajectory: from generation in NPPs or
radioactive installations, to final disposal (handling, processing, volume reduction,
temporary storage, transport and final disposal). The following projects are representative:
Low and medium level waste
- Waste handling and processing system engineering for Spanish NPPs and advanced reactors
- Low level waste temporary storage at NPP sites: Almaraz, Trillo and José Cabrera.
- Contaminated material release from NPPs, R&D radioactive installations and hospitals
- Rozan (Poland) storage building redesign
- Independent review of the engineering at El Cabril (Low and medium level waste repository)
High level waste
- Spent fuel temporary storage at NPP sites, in pools, in cement (C.N. José Cabrera) and concrete (C.N. Trillo and C.N. Almaraz) containers, both in Spain and in East European countries (Czech Republic and Slovakia)
- Site selection for high level waste final repositories
- Design, safety analysis and environmental impact study of the deep geological repository for high level waste in granite, clay and salt formations
Dismantling of nuclear installations
- Pre-dismantling of Bohunice A-1 (Slovakia) NPP
- Participation in the management of the dismantling of Vandellos I NPP (graphite-gas, 550 MW)
- Engineering, licensing, environmental impact and supervision of the dismantling for CIEMAT's R&D installations in Madrid
